Named by the Native American 'Algonquin' tribe, the Full 'Buck' Moon marks the time of the year when the new antlers of buck deer grow out.
It also goes by the colourful and poetic names of Berry Moon, Feather Moulting Moon, Halfway Summer Moon, Month of the Ripe Corn Moon, Moon When the Chokecherries are Ripe, Raspberry Moon, Salmon Moon and Thunder Moon.
Usually, the name of the Full Moon describes the events associated with the time of year; the harvest, the seasons, the ebb and flow of the cycles of life.
Some Full Moons, though, seem to have a much greater impact than others and this Full Moon is rare indeed, as it is the first of two Full Moons in Aquarius, the second falling on August 22nd.
